Jessica Rabbit! Coloring is usually such a CHORE for me, but I’m getting so much better and faster! I have an actual process, now, instead of klutzy flailing. I was delighted to find how much I genuinely enjoyed working on this! Honestly, I think pink is just my happy color. And I love orange with purple. AND SPARKLES. Just a good time, all around.

Jessica Rabbit belongs to Disney.

Ghirahim

“You may call me Ghirahim. In truth, I very much prefer to be indulged with my full title: Lord Ghirahim. But I’m not fussy.”

Spoiler alert: He is very fussy.

This is a revision of an earlier piece I attempted in 2018. I was trying to capture that “psycho pretty boy” vibe, but he mostly looked like a mother of three named Cheryl who wants to speak to your manager. Evil Mom Chic? For my own sake, I had to take another crack at it. 😂 Here’s the old version, for posterity:

Spots On! 🐞

I was SO excited for when I saw the pitch for Miraculous Ladybug. Loved the tone, I loved the style—so when the studios involved decided to go for a shiny CGI look tilted at younger audiences instead of the moody anime style they’d initially considered, I was pretty disappointed. I tried watching a few episodes of the show, but it didn’t grab me like I hoped. But my good friend Marian was over the moon about it, so I drew her this piece as a gift. It actually started out as a hand-inked bookmark, which looked like this (drawn Jan 2018):

You can see that it changed a lot when I decided to expand on this piece! Swapping the orientation of her body somehow worked better and made the pose feel more dynamic. I added in the extra long hair ribbons as an homage to the earlier anime design for Ladybug that I’d loved so much.

Figuring out this piece took a lot of trial and error, but I’m glad I stuck with it. It gets a lot of love on social media, and I sell out of this print at every convention, no matter how many I stock.

Claws Out! 🐾 After drawing Ladybug, I had to draw a matching Cat Noir piece to go with her!

Here’s the sketch I started with. Since my Ladybug piece started as a bookmark design, I thought he would end up as a bookmark as well.

Ultimately, I’m glad I extended both pieces out. I’m personally ambivalent about Miraculous (to be honest, I’m still mourning the awesome anime look from the pitch that we never got)—but it’s fun to see how much love these pieces get from fans.

Winter Grace

Rime is an original character of one rimedragona, who was one of my first Internet friends. She was quite a role model to me. I loved the concept of her wintry dragon lady and gave my best shot attempting to capture her.
